The Framework Of Genealogy Research: A
Genealogy Tree
Researching your genealogy is quite a bit like detective work.
You have to look at historical records, documents and
memorabilia to find clues to some of those more elusive family
members. Before you start on this major project however, you
need to find a good genealogy tree to use as your
framework.
A genealogy tree is an outline that you use to keep track of
your family members. The easiest part is usually going to be
entering your name and your sibling’s names as your parent’s
offspring. Then you work backward, filling in your parent’s
parents names (your grandparents) and so on. As you can
imagine, this can become pretty complex quickly and will look
quite a bit like a spider web with all the lines branching off
from each person.
Choosing A Genealogy Tree To Use
There are quite a few options when you are looking at which
type of genealogy tree to use. There are free online programs
that you can use, but the better programs will probably cost
you something. If all you are looking for is a bare bones blank
genealogy tree to write names into, you can find plenty of
those online for free too.
A genealogy tree is pretty straight forward and there won’t be
many variations from the standard one. Once you have completed
your research however, there are many options to make a
visually appealing genealogy tree that you can frame and
display in your house. Many of these completed trees can be
beautifully crafted and illustrated and can be very attractive.
If you aren’t looking for a piece of artwork however, you
really won’t need to investigate that option.
Many online sites that charge a fee to help you keep track of
your genealogy tree have many options. Most of these sites
allow you to print out copies of your genealogy tree in various
formats. You can also selectively print out just a couple of
branches of your tree. The sites that charge you for their
services usually allow you to have a certain amount of storage
space for your information in their database. This allows you
to store all of your information that you have so far and
retrieve it in various ways.
Whether you are an amateur genealogist or a more experienced
sleuth, you will soon recognize the importance of a genealogy
tree when you are trying to keep track of all of your records.
Plain or fancy, a genealogy tree can help you sort your
information efficiently and help you see where your tree needs
some further help. So find a blank tree and get to work
completing it.
